Este Sábado pasado, un grupo de voluntarios y 10 estudiantes recibieron su primera lección en laminación de tablas de surf en el taller de shaper local de Reñaca Hueso Carranza.  La tabla, shapeado en Octubre con fabricante de tablas Mauricio Donoso de Schiestl Chile Surf Boards, recibió el tratamiento total de preparación, laminación, y glass durante el taller.

Porque no hay mucho espacio en los talleres de laminación y solo tuvimos una cantidad limitada de mascaras, los estudiantes de VSP se turnaron trabajando en el taller y la mayoría se involucraron directamente por aplicar resina.  Después de horas en el taller, un asado para almuerzo, y un día de luchar con un cielo nublado, esperando la resina UV a secar, por fin los chicos tuvieron la oportunidad de tomar la tabla en las manos por la primera vez desde lo hicimos en Pichilemu.

This past Saturday, a group of VSP volunteers and 10 students got their first lesson in surfboard glassing and finishing at the workshop of local Reñaca shaper Hueso Carranza.  The board, shaped in October with Pichilemu-based Mauricio Donoso from Schiestl Chile Surf Boards, received the full treatment of preparation, glass and hot coat during the workshop.

Space was tight in the glassing room and we had a limited amount of respirators on hand, so students took turns in the workshop and most had the opportunity to get their hands directly involved in helping Hueso apply resin.  After hours in the glassing room, a lunch time barbecue, and a full day of battling an overcast sky for the UV resin to dry, the kids finally got the opportunity to hold the board under their arms for the first time since it was shaped.
