NEW! – Foto Valpo

Foto Valpo

Foto Valpo originated from a conversation between Jon Steuber and Kathryn Armstrong over orange soda and completos in downtown Valparaiso in March of 2010. After discussing the benefits of an arts education program as a component to the Valpo Surf Project, we decided we wanted to create a photography program that engages youth with their environment. With Foto Valpo we hope to enable creativity, artistic development, and social awareness through the art of photography among at-risk youth and their community in Valparaiso, Chile.

Foto Valpo

Kathryn Armstrong grew up photographing and sailing on the coast of Maine. During high school, her passion for sailing led her to compete internationally in and Italy, and finally found her on a four-month, five thousand mile sail from Venezuela to Nova Scotia. Kathryn has spent the last three years coaching Optimist Racing as the Sailing Director of Tampa Yacht Club. A graduate of the University of South Florida, her studies in photography and Latin American art have fostered her belief that the process of photography is intrinsically linked to the environment of the photographer. Kathryn is excited to use her experience in photography and education to encourage artistic growth within the youth and community of Valparaiso.
