Board Repair Session (Sesion de Reparar Tablas)
Each year the turn of the new year means the official beginning of summer in Valparaíso and last Friday the older group of VSP students, along with directors and volunteers, got together to clean and repair boards to start off the season right. The team got together to scrape wax, clean boards, and repair dings to get them ready for the water.
Students and volunteers got a full lesson on basic board repair with fiberglass and polyester resin. Each student learned how to identify dings, sand them to prepare for repair, and finally how to safely use polyester resin and fiberglass to seal the cracks. We ended the day with an asado of chorizo, salsa, and grilled squash for the students. And, director Henry Myer showed off his traditional Chilean dance skills and danced the cueca.

Cada año nuevo acá en Valparaíso significa el comienzo oficial del verano y el viernes pasado el grupo mayor de estudiantes VSP, con los directores y voluntarios, se juntaron para limpiar y reparar tablas para empezar la temporada correctamente. El equipo se juntó para raspar cera, limpiar las tablas, y reparar los hoyos para preparar las tablas para el agua.
Los estudiantes y voluntarios recibieron una lección completa de reparación básica de tablas con fibra de vidrio y resina de poliéster. Cada estudiante aprendió como identificar daños de una tabla, lijarlos para prepararlos para reparación, y finalmente como usar resina de poliéster para cerrar los hoyos. Terminamos el día con un asado de choripanes con pebre y zapallo italiano asado para los estudiantes. Y, por supuesto, director Henry Myer mostró sus conocimientos de la danza tradicional de Chile y bailó la cueca.
