Portland Fundraiser

THE VALPO SURF PROJECT TO HOLD PORTLAND BENEFIT SILENT AUCTION

The Valpo Surf Project will hold its final fundraiser of 2009 at Corduroy Surf Boutique in the Old Port of Portland, Maine on Friday, December 18. All the proceeds will benefit VSP, a non-profit youth mentoring program, set to launch its pilot program in Valparaiso, Chile in February 2010.

The event in Portland is the last stop in their fundraising circuit before their send off to South America. Three of the four founders of VSP graduated from Bates College in 2008 and credit surfing in Maine for their friendship and inspiration. Jon Steuber recounts his college surfing career, “5 am dawn-patrols before class, climbing into damp 6/5 wetsuits and chasing surf all up and down the Maine coast. They are excited to return to Maine and draw on the surfing community that spawned their love for the sport.

The benefit will be held at Corduroy Surf Boutique at 59 Market St, in the Old Port of Portland, Maine. The event is from 7-10pm.  The nights festivities include a presentation by VSP directors, DJ Kid Consumption spinning, beer and wine included with entry, a wetsuit drive, door prizes, and walls and tables loaded with art and merchandise by local artists and businesses for a silent auction. Bidding for the silent auction will start at 7:00 and close at 9:30. Suggested entry donation is $15-20, or a full 3/2 or 4/3 wetsuit to the VSP wetsuit drive, which will go to keeping the VSP kids warm in the cold Chilean waters (all sizes and conditions accepted).
