Taller y Competencia Ecoladrillos (Ecobrick Workshop and Contest)

Earlier in January, the leaders of the grassroots organization Valpo Interviene held an instructional workshop for Valpo Surf Project students to learn about composting and building ecobricks.  Using these two methods, students have a tangible way reduce the amount of garbage going to landfills and, more importantly, keep harmful plastics out of our oceans.

The ecobrick workshop showed students how to separate non-recyclable plastics and household wastes from their trash, compact them into used soda or juice bottles, and create recycled building materials from their daily waste.  Our two groups of students, divided into English classes by age, are currently in competition for prizes in a summer long contest to see who can build the most ecobricks and keep plastics off our beaches and out of our oceans.

We’ll keep you updated on their progress as the competition heats up and announce the winners in March.

A principios de enero, los directores de la organización medioambiental sin fines de lucro Valpo Interviene ofreció un taller educativo para los alumnos de Valpo Surf Project sobre el compostaje y construcción de ecoladrillos.  Al usar estas dos metodologías, los alumnos tienen una manera tangible y cotidiana para reducir la cantidad de basura que va al basurero y, lo mas importante, mantener plásticos perjudiciales afuera de nuestros océanos.

El taller de ecoladrillos enseño a los alumnos como separar plástico no-reciclables y desechos de la casa de la basura, compactarlos en botellas plásticas de soda o jugo, y construir materiales de construcción reciclados de sus desechos cotidianos.  Nuestros dos grupos de alumnos, divididos en clases de inglés por edad, ahora están en competencia durante el verano.El equipo que logre construir mas ecoladrillos y mantener plásticos afuera de nuestras playas y océanos obtendrá premios.
